Use a Variety of Different Sized Drumsticks
If you're playing a light ballad you don't want to be playing with your
big 2B's. Have a few different sizes of drumsticks available and use them for different styles of songs.

Color-coding Your Hardware
Color-coding your cymbal and tom stands definitely helps you to set
up much faster. Simply mark them with a permanent black marker at the proper heights before you tear down.

Drumming and Keeping the Right Perspective
Playing drums becomes more enjoyable when you keep the right perspective. Play because you enjoy it, and assume others will enjoy your drumming too. If
you love to play and you make someone else happy as well, than that makes it all the better.

Never Stagnate
Be open to new ideas and other perspectives to the drums. Never think you
know everything. No matter how long you've
played there's always something you haven't tried or even heard before.

Be On Time!
It is so vitally important to be on time for rehearsals, auditions, or gigs.
Even be early, if you can! Other people will come to respect you
as someone who takes their drumming seriously. Not only that, but you can get a head start on the things that you need
to take care of and be totally prepared for what you are about to do.

Tuning Your Drums
Many drummers try to use an exact technique to tune their drums, but
there is no exact technique. The thing is, if it sounds good to you, it's tuned. It's simply about the sound.

Listen to Your Favorite Drummers Often
If you don't play your drums for a while it tends to get easier to
NOT play. One good way to get back into the groove is to begin listening to your favorite drummers again. If
you can listen to your favorite drummers regularly it will keep you motivated.

Practice How You Will Play
You always want to be sure to set up your practice sessions EXACTLY
how you set up at a gig. When you play at your gig, you will want any thing to feel unusual.

Practice Drumming With Your Weak Hand and Foot.
Whether you are right handed or left, you predominantly use one or
the other in your drumming. When you make an effort to practice your drums with your weak hand and foot you will develop all your drumming skills much further! It's really frustrating at first,
but you'll eventually get the hang of it.

How to Play Relaxed
When you first start your practice session start with
a slower tempo and work into faster ones. If you don't your arms and shoulders will get tight. This will wear you
down real quick without you even realizing what's happening.

Practice With CDs and Headphones.
Playing along with other drummers is a great way to develop new styles of drumming. It's also a fun way to practice.
Just be sure to balance out the sound between your music and drumming so you don't blow out your ears.

Drummers Get Most of the Blame
Drummers are usually the
ones who get blamed for tempo fluctuations. But, who's to blame for tempo fluctuations when the drums are NOT playing in a
particular part of a song? Practicing with a metronome is good for EVERY musician, not just drummers. Stress the importance
to your band mates about their contribution to time keeping.

The Drummer's Main Responsibility
As drummers, our primary responsibility before anything else is to lay
down a steady beat for the other musicians in the band. Some drummers think they should just play along. So not true! We are
the backbone of the band. If the other musicians mess up, let it not be our fault.
