Tuning Tips
Tuning Tips - Don't gum up your heads with duct tape, deadringers, etc. (especially the snare drum). instead, get a small piece of cloth and rest it on the head near the rim. Then tape the cloth not to the head, but to the rim. When you hit the drum, the cloth will jump up and when it comes down it will kill the overring (especially the snare drum). - CG

A good reason to use cheap stuff when starting out.
What ever you do, do not make the mistake of buying all the expensive things when you are first starting out. Use the cheaper to appreciate the better things in this drumming world. - Sam T.

Drumming is More Fun When You Keep the Right Perspective
I have found that if one keeps the right perspective, playing becomes more enjoyable. Are you playing just to impress someone or for their enjoyment? I look at it like I am serving someone. I love to play and if it makes someone else happy other than me than that makes it all the better. You never know how your playing may make someone elses day more enjoyable. - Della Barrett

End Every Drum Practice Session with a Short Solo
I always advise students to detail an organized drum practice session so they are not wasting time. See my article... http://www.dbdrumtips.com/4things.html

One thing that is important to do at the end of every drum practice session is end it with a short solo. Just a time of "free for all" on your drums. It will give you relief from the tedious practice techniques you have just endured. You will also come up with new ideas and your solos will greatly improve.

Prolong the life of your bass drum head
Apply a thick coat of Plasti-Dip on the striking spot of your bass drum head. It will prolong the life of your head. You can get this stuff at Home Depot, or probably any home improvement store.

Playing Fast Tempos
The faster you play your drums the more relaxed you should be. So, when you're playing fast tempos, make a conscious effort to relax your hands.

A Possible Solution for a Rattling Snare
Some drummers say that if you put crinkled up news paper inside your snare drum it cuts down on rattling. Try it and see!

Stretching Your Muscles
Always stretch your hands before you even approach your drum set. Also, stretch your shoulders and calves. Doing this can keep you from thightening up when you get into practicing or playing.

Learn to Not Concentrate
When you play, only concentrate on what you are doing if it's something you're unaccustomed to. Once you begin to get the hang of it, let your mind wander and let your drumming become unconscious.

Stuff Newspaper in Your Bass Drum
Some drummers have said if you stuff newspaper in your bass drum you will get a wet, sort of punchy sound. Try it and see if you like it.

Study Pro Drummers
