Have you ever broken a bass drum head?
I recently set up my drums out in the garage, where I am waiting on a friend to install a new furnace
(Here in Indiana it's been down right cold)!
I went out to play for a bit the other night and I
put my pedal straight through my bass drum head.
I had done the same thing last year in a room where I had shut the heat off to save on my heat bill. Apparently, the heads become a little brittle when they
get chilled.
Don't get me wrong... it's been cold outside, but in my garage it's a little warmer
(maybe 40 degrees without a furnace).
Really though, I have only broken *bass* heads due to coldness.
Who knows, maybe I'm just using a poor brand - Remo Weatherking Pinstripes.

New Drum Tips
~ Don't use light, thin drumsticks when you're practicing snare drum rudiments. Drumstick size is
critical! The heavier drumsticks will do a lot of the work for you. ~ Try to notice when your arms are aching when
you're attempting to drum fast. If you get all tensed up, stop... and then make a special effort to relax and start again.
Then, speed your drumming up gradually while paying attention to stiffness in your arms. Repeat the process until muscle-memory
has taken over and it becomes effortless. ~ When practicing drum rudiments, drum them along with your metronome
set at different tempos. Music eBooks in my eBay Store http://stores.ebay.com/DD-Blairs-eBooks

New Drum Tips
~ Keep a pair of drumsticks with you at all times. You don't always need your drum kit to be able to practice. ~ Turn your drum tuning key into a necklace. It's a good way to keep track of it too. ~ If you want to get fast on the drums, you've got to start slowly. Get the technique first, and then the speed will come automaticlly. My Experience with CB Drums
I was playing on a friend's CB Drum Set the other day (If you're not familiar with CB Drums, they are an entry
level set)...
This is a beautiful set of drums in a forest green color that was bought for her 12-year old son... Even though
it's a gorgeous drumset it sounds aweful! I was really surprised that after fiddling around with the
tuning, I was able to get a pretty decent sound out of them! I tuned them really low and used some old socks she
had laying around to muffle the heads...
They didn't sound fantastic, but much better... However, it didn't take much to dent the heck out of those CB
Drumheads! The cymbals that came with this CB Drum Set (a crash and a pair of hi-hats)... Well, can I
really call them "cymbals?" They have absolutely no sound quality at all! A better use for them would be to sell
them for scrap metal!
Anyway, if you know someone who would like to start playing drums and would like to get a beginner set, CB Drums are
a pretty good value!
Be honest and tell them though, that they will have to get different cymbals... the cymbals that come with a
set of CB Drums are enough to discourage anyone!
